Creative Visions Takes Steps to Promote A Healthier Community
Creative Visions will kick off its healthy living initiative Step Up and Step Out Against Obesity by participating in the Start Somewhere Walk at noon on October 7, 2011. Walkers are asked to meet at Creative Visions 1343 Forest Street by 11:45 for the 7 block walk.
The Start Somewhere Walk is a privately led, public effort that will engage Iowans throughout the state in efforts to make Iowa the healthiest state in the Nation. It will involve individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public sector in a broad-based community-focused effort.
Creative Visions recently expanded its services to include healthy living in an effort to educate its clients on the importance of healthy living. “Obesity impacts an individual’s quality of living from health to employment and we want to help make a difference”, said Creative Visions’ founder and CEO Ako Abdul-Samad.
Creative Visions has formed a walking club that will meet weekly. The goal of the club will not be to just lose weight, but hopefully to get the community engaged in increasing their physical activity and develop healthy living habits. Creative Visions will also be partnering with the Iowa State University Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. This will be an 6 week course in which participants will learn how to prepare healthier meals. Each participant will receive the ingredients used to make the meal at the end of each session.
Other healthy living activities will be promoted throughout the year. To sign up for the Start Somewhere Walk, which kicks off Creative Visions walking club or to register for the walking club or cooking classes, please call (515) 244-4003.
