The first of eight healthy living and cooking classes kicked off to an enthusiastic crowd. Creative Visions and Iowa State University Extension Office Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program n( EFNEP) have partnered to conduct an 8 week series of wellness classes developed to promote healthy living and cooking.

The hour-long classes taught by EFNP staff are part of Creative Visions’ recent wellness efforts which include practical steps families can take to develop healthy living choices through proper nutrition and exercise. The classes are presented in English and Spanish. Participants receive all of the ingredients used in the menus presented during the class.

UPDATE 10/17/11:

Ako has been discharged from the hospital and is resting comfortably at home. Ako expresses  his gratitude for all of the calls, flowers, and support during his illness.

Creative Visions’ founder and CEO Ako Abdul –Samad is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor.  The tumor was discovered after Abdul-Samad was admitted to the hospital last week complaining of a headache and dizziness.

“I am fortunate that the tumor was discovered before causing any permanent damage and doctors have assured me that I can expect a full recovery. I am looking forward to resuming my duties at Creative Visions and the legislature within a very short time. I wish to thank all who have called and visited me and Creative Visions to wish me well. “said Abdul- Samad.

In Abdul- Samad’s absence, Creative Visions’ day to day management and duties will be assumed by Creative Visions’ COO, LaVon Stennis Williams , announced Board Chair, Michael Sadler.
