Creative Visions  provides computer literacy classes in its efforts to help A recent study by Pew Research pointed out the underutilization of technology by minorities to improve socio economic conditions and to address quality of life issues. The report showed that African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to use hand held wireless devices such as cell phones to access the internet bypassing broadband internet use.

The report further illustrates the troubling fact that African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to use the internet for entertainment rather than looking for employment or other services to improve their conditions. Reasons given for the disproportionate use of broadband devices by minorities are the lack of access, costs and not know how to use the computer and internet.  Further studies warn of the limited use of wireless technology which can’t compete with the greater effectiveness and capacity provided by broadband connections into the home.

Creative Visions has long been aware of the empowering impact that technology plays on improving the socio economic conditions of low income communities and families and provides free access to a fully equip computer lab that is open to the public Monday –Friday to help with searching for employment, applying for benefits and services and for homework.

Creative Vision is also aware that many community members need help with learning to use a computer and internet which is why Creative Visions offer free computer classes to the community.

The computer classes are taught by Joy Tofteland, a skilled community volunteer, each Friday from 4:30- 5:30 p.m.  Each class is 6-8 weeks long and covers basic use of the computer to the effective use of the internet.
